Today's Inspirational Quote:
Friendship is like money, easier made than kept. - Samuel Butler
The Power of "PERHAPS" © by Anita Foley
Do you find that every time you think about making a change in your life you sabotage yourself by thinking it is unlikely that you'll be able to do it? Do all the negative, self-limiting thoughts come to the forefront and stop you in your tracks? You must learn to change these self-imposed limitations that are preventing you from reaching your potential. Then you can transform your life and achieve your dreams.
Use the word PERHAPS to change your negative beliefs to possibilities that invite ACTION and, ultimately, to positive beliefs and probabilities. "I CAN'T do math" can become "PERHAPS I can do math if I take some action" and then become "I CAN probably do math". Likewise, "I WON'T make money with an online business" becomes "PERHAPS I can make money with an online business if I start one and work at it" to "I CAN probably make money with an online business." Do you see how changing that one word will change the whole feeling of the belief?
Think about the potential outcome for your changed beliefs. Changing your negative beliefs is the first step in the transformation process that will really make a difference in your life. What are your possibilities?

Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that. - Norman Vincent Peale
Norman Vincent Peale born on May 31
Nearly every American achiever has been impacted at some time in their life by the wisdom of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. As a young boy, Peale faced a fight against strong inferiority feelings when growing up. Over the years he developed and refined the message that anyone could put the principles of positive thinking and strong faith into practice and improve upon their own life dramatically.
Peale put his gifted writing skills to work over the years. His fourth book "The Power of Positive Thinking," was published in 1952 and has sold nearly 20 million copies and has been printed in 41 different languages. Peale completed what has been called his all-time inspirational best seller at age 54. He was the author of 46 inspirational books including "The Art of Living," "A Guide to Confident Living," "The Tough-Minded Optimist," and "Inspiring Messages for Daily Living."
For 54 years, Peale's weekly radio program, "The Art of Living," was on the air. His sermons were said to be mailed to over 750,000 people per month and in 1964 a movie was made of his life entitled "One Man's Way."

Interesting phrase origins:
To throw the book at someone - to punish someone severely.
This figurative book is presumably a book of rules or laws. Originally, and still in its normal usage, this expression meant to impose the maximum penalty. For criminals this is likely to mean life imprisonment. Nowadays, the expression may be used more generally, often where the punishment or reprimand is far less extreme. The 'book' is an imaginary book of rules or of offences and their prescribed penalties. The expression dates from the 1930s and is of American origin.

“There is only one caste, the caste of humanity. All of us belong to the human race, so everyone is equal. Therefore, love each one equally.” - Sri Sathya Sai Baba
Life is a Do-It-Yourself Project
An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he wanted to retire. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials.
When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said, "my gift to you." What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.
Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, "Life is a do-it-yourself project."

A STRONG WOMAN VS. A WOMAN OF STRENGTH
A strong woman isn't afraid of anything…But a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of fear.
A strong woman won't let anyone get the better of her…But a woman of strength gives the best of herself to everyone.
A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future…A woman of strength realises life's mistakes can also be unexpected blessings, and capitalises on them
A strong woman wears a look of confidence on her face…But a woman of strength wears grace.
A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey…But a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong.

A clean joke to start your week with laughter
A group of girls walk into a bar. One of the women tells the bartender to line up a row of drinks for all of them. The gals lift their glasses and toast, "Here's to 51 days!" and they proceed to down their drinks. Once again, they tell the bartender to "line 'em up", and once again they toast 51 days and down their drinks.
The bartender says, "I don't get it. Why in the world are you toasting 51 days?"
One of the them explains, "We just finished a jigsaw puzzle. It had written on the box '2-4 years,' but we finished it in 51 days!"

It costs nothing to be nice --- Copyright © 1998 Sherrie Holland
I was working at Johns Hopkins as an Administrative Manager. I left my office to go to the ladies room and found one of our medical residents sobbing. I sat and talked with her for a while and tried to give her encouragement.
The next morning, she arrived at my office with a little box of Godiva chocolates and a very heartwarming note, thanking me and telling me how much my pep talk had helped her and that she knew she'd be fine now.
I sat at my computer and wrote the following, and after printing in a large font, taped it to my wall - as a reminder:
"It costs nothing to be nice ..... but the dividends are priceless."

A clean joke to sign off your week with laughter: The Sin of Lying
A minister told his congregation, "Next week I plan to preach about the sin of lying. To help you understand my sermon, I want you all to read Mark 17." The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only sixteen chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."

How Old Are You? By Catherine Pulsifer
If we did not know our age, some of us would appear to be very young, and some of us would seem very old. Sometimes, people use age as a convenient excuse. "I'm too old to start something new", or, "I couldn't learn that at my age." Other people, though, go on to achieve their greatest accomplishments in life in later years.
Take, for example, Colonel Harland Sanders who started franchising his chicken outlets when he was 65 years old. Up to the age of 90 years old he traveled 250,000 miles a year visiting KFC franchises. He not only overcame personal and business adversities, but more importantly, he didn't let age stand in his way! Feelings lead to attitudes, attitudes become beliefs, and beliefs become the basis for actions.
It is not important how old you are;
it is how you feel, how you think,
and what you do that is important.
To quote Satchel Paige, "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you was."

If you Think you have Failed (from http://www.sap-basis-abap.com)
What is Failure to a person depends on their thoughts. Many successful people are familiar with failure as they take them on as lessons to be learned in one's life. You will not know success if you don't know what failure is. The failure you faced are experience for you so that you can learn from each lessons that life is trying to teach you and it broadens your knowledge and each step of failure will mold you into a better and successful person.
The next time that you think that you have failed and feel like giving up, then think of Abraham Lincoln.

Age 24: Failed again in business
Age 26: Overcame the death of his sweetheart

Honesty pays, but it doesn't seem to pay enough to suit some people. - F.M. Hubbard
The Emperor and The Seed
An emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his successor. He called young people in the kingdom together one day. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you." "I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here after one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed." One boy named Ling was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the story. She helped him get a pot and planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully.
Ling kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks went by. Still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants but Ling didn't have a plant, and he felt like a failure. Six months went by, still nothing in Ling's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed.
A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection. He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, "Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!" Ling couldn't believe it. Then the emperor said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds, which would not grow. Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!"
If you plant honesty, you will reap trust.
If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.
If you plant hard work, you will reap success.
If you plant openness, you will reap intimacy.
If you plant faith, you will reap miracles.

Only if you keep - on your face - a smile.
Thousands of things could make you cry
But you're strong enough to keep your head up high.

Today's Inspirational Quote:
The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good. - Ann Landers
WHO YOU ARE SPEAKS LOUDER TO ME THAN ANYTHING YOU CAN SAY an excerpt from Lee Ryan Miller's TEACHING AMIDST THE NEON PALM TREES
At the beginning of my 8:00 a.m. class one Monday at UNLV, I cheerfully asked my students how their weekend had been. One young man said that his weekend had not been very good. He'd had his wisdom teeth extracted. The young man then proceeded to ask me why I always seemed to be so cheerful.
His question reminded me of something I'd read somewhere before: "Every morning when you get up, you have a choice about how you want to approach life that day," I said to the young man. "I choose to be cheerful."
"Let me give you an example," I continued. The other sixty students in the class ceased their chatter and began to listen to our conversation. "In addition to teaching here at UNLV, I also teach out at the community college in Henderson, about seventeen miles down the freeway from where I live. One day, a few weeks ago, I drove those seventeen miles to Henderson. I exited the freeway and turned onto College Drive. I only had to drive another quarter-mile down the road to the college. But just then my car died. I tried to start it again, but the engine wouldn't turn over. So I put my flashers on, grabbed my books, and marched down the road to the college."
"As soon as I got there I called AAA and asked them to send a tow truck. The secretary in the Provost's office asked me what had happened. This is my lucky day," I replied, smiling.
"Your car breaks down and today is your lucky day?" She was puzzled. "What do you mean?"
"I live seventeen miles from here." I replied. "My car could have broken down anywhere along the freeway. It didn't. Instead, it broke down in the perfect place: off the freeway, within walking distance of here. I'm still able to teach my class, and I've been able to arrange for the tow truck to meet me after class. If my car was meant to break down today, it couldn't have been arranged in a more convenient fashion."
The secretary's eyes opened wide, and then she smiled. I smiled back and headed for class. So ended my story to the students in my economics class at UNLV.
I scanned the sixty faces in the lecture hall. Despite the early hour, no one seemed to be asleep. Somehow, my story had touched them. Or maybe it wasn't the story at all. In fact, it had all started with a student's observation that I was cheerful.
A wise man once said, "Who you are speaks louder to me than anything you can say." I suppose it must be so.

The Pencil story
The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. "There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be."
"One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand."
"Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."
"Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make."
"Four: The most important part of you will always be what's inside."
"And Five: On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write."
Now replacing the place of the pencil with you. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.
One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.
Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems in life, but you'll need it to become a stronger person.
Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.
Four: The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside.
Five: On every surface you walk through, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to do your duties.
Allow this parable on the pencil to encourage you to know that you are a special person and only you can fulfill the purpose to which you were born to accomplish.Never allow yourself to get discouraged and think that your life is insignificant and cannot make a change.

Sunday had finally come for Detective Kelvin Wallace. It was the day of the auction. He was an avid collector of antique items. He was looking for something from the collection of a King, especially Louis XIV, as he did not have any of his items. Finally, the collection of King Louis XIV came up for auction. The first item was a bathing towel which was supposedly used every day by King Louis XIV. Everyone was eager to get his hands on the old torn piece of cloth, but Detective Wallace knew that it was a fake piece and decided to leave the auction hall immediately. How did he know that the towel was fake? Scroll down for the answer ...
Answer
Detective Wallace knew it was a fake because there was no possibility of the king using the cloth every day. King Louis XIV only took three baths in his life of 77 years, and he desired none of them. The three times were:
1.When he was baptized.
2.When a mistress insisted.
3.When a doctor ordered him to soak in a tub filled with water.

Walk your own walk - Copyright © 2005 Diane Gresham
You have to walk your own walk in this life. And as you are traveling down your road, don't look down at your feet. Keep your head up and your eyes focused on what you know to be true. Be neither a follower nor a leader. You are not forsaken; you are forgiven, and when shadows exist simply find higher ground to tread upon. If you come across an obstacle or an impasse, pay mind to it but don't focus on it for too long or your feet may sink into the quicksand that surrounds it. Find the courage to surmount it and continue on your journey.
Offer your hand to those you come across who are stuck in their own personal sand traps, but do not point them in the direction you feel they must go, that has to be their decision. Only imply to them that they are never alone, and they will eventually find their way. When you get to where you are going and you look back, it is your own footprints you are going to want to see, not someone else's. The importance of your trials and tribulations is a gift to be beholden, for that is how you will learn whom you truly are.

AWARENESS - AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT VIRTUE Copyright © 2006 Vashi R. Chandiramani
Awareness is indeed an "Extremely Important and Beneficial Virtue". Awareness enables us to make responsible decisions on the pathway of this Beautiful Life. Awareness guides and influences the trajectory of each endeavor practically, with utilization of logic and prudent acumen.
Awareness prevents the necessity of having a person to go through experiences that could either prove to be crucial / detrimental with repercussive ramifications and complements the entire structure of each endeavor proficiently by bestowing the individual with full fledged knowledge and the cutting edge well beforehand, thereby constructively orchestrating the Rhythm of Life meritoriously.
Awareness spreads the richness that Life has to offer each and every one of us consistently in each and every wonderful moment. Being Aware, we are able to deploy the resources strategically that each one of us has been fortunately bestowed with, in a privileged manner.
Before we venture towards taking any action, let us utilize the investigative power of awareness with care; of being aware of what is right and wrong instead of rushing into judging or reaching our own conclusions on the basis of what we have heard from a known or unknown source. Awareness; it is Great to be Aware.

Abraham Lincoln meets Grace Bedell
A few weeks before he was elected President, Lincoln received a letter from Grace Bedell, a 11-year-old girl from Westfield, New York, who urged him to grow a beard to help him get elected. In Lincoln's response of October 19, he gave no promises, but a month later allowed his beard to grow.
By the time Lincoln left his Illinois home to start his inaugural journey to Washington, D.C., he wore a full beard. The trip took him by rail through New York state, stopping briefly in Westfield on February 16. Once at the train station, he called into the crowd for Grace. The following contemporary newspaper accounts recorded the incident.
"Some three months ago, I received a letter from a young lady here; it was a very pretty letter, and she advised me to let my whiskers grow, as it would improve my personal appearance; acting partly upon her suggestion, I have done so; and now, if she is here, I would like to see her; I think her name was Miss Barlly." - From the Philadelphia Inquirer of February 20, 1861

Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, this time more wisely.
Dreams Joseph Epstein
All men and women are born, live, suffer and die; what distinguishes us one from another is our dreams, whether they be dreams about worldly or unworldly things, and what we do to make them come about... We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we live.

Some may get the "power" brainwave and think of 999 (99 to the power of 9), which calculates out as 99*99*99*99*99*99*99*99*99. Even better is 999 (9 to the power of 99) which calculates out as 9*9*9*9*9*9*9 ... and so on 99 times.
The correct answer, however, if you extend the idea even further ends up as... 999 (9 to the 9th power of 9). Work out the second and third powers first (9*9*9*9*9*9*9*9*9 = 387420489.) We can therefore restate the sum as 9387420489 which works out as.... very very big indeed.

Today's Inspirational Quote:
When anger rises, think of the consequences. - Confucius
The Given Light Barbara Hug
Once upon a time a man had heard, that in a foreign place, far away, there was a holy flame burning. So he got up and left his home to find the holy flame and bring some of its light back home to his house. He thought: 'When I have this light, then I will have happiness and life and all the people I love will have it too.'
He travelled far, far away and finally found the holy flame, with which he lit his light. On his way home he met someone who was freezing and didn't have any fire and who begged him to give him some of his fire. The man with the light hesitated for a moment. Wasn't his light too precious, too holy to be given away for something ordinary like that? Despite these doubts, he decided to give some of his light to the one who was freezing in the darkness.
The man continued his journey home and when he had almost reached his house a terrible thunderstorm started. He tried to protect his light from the rain and the storm, but at the end his light went out. To return the long way back to the place where the holy flame was burning was impossible, he wouldn't have had enough strength to go back this far - but he was strong enough to return to the human being whom he had helped on his way home
..........and with his light he could light his own again

Why Not! Be Open to Learning New Tricks - By Julie Wininger
Positive motivation can be used to shape more complex behaviors Pets and people are more willing to work for rewards. Typically, they do more of what brings them pleasure and less of what gives them pain. How can we use these practices in everyday life? With our kids/spouses/co-workers? People thrive on attention and rewards. Make sure you are rewarding the behavior you want repeated.

The Pythagorean Theorem
PYTHAGORAS himself probably never heard of the mathematical theorem that bears his name. It does appear, however, that the idea came from a school founded by the ancient Greek mathematician sometime in the 6th century before Christ. The Pythagoreans believed there was magic in numbers, and the theorem is pretty magical: the sum of the squares of the two legs of a right triangle is equal to the square of the hypoteneuse. Every single time.

- Catch your spouse/child/co-worker doing something good and give them direct, specific feedback.Don't just say 'You are doing a good job.' Be specific. It's better to say something like, "I like the way you present your ideas. You are clear and precise and always include recommendations for how to implement specifics."
- Find at least one thing each day you can give someone positive feedback on to re-enforce behaviors you would like repeated.
- Tailor rewards to the person. For some people just being asked their opinion is a reward. It gives them the attention they seek. For your children, it may be time with a video game or a treat after dinner. Find out what motivates the person and reward accordingly.

Today's Inspirational Quote:
The future depends on what we do in the present. - Mahatma Gandhi
Today
Those that we see who are living long lives, don't do so without powerful intent that keeps drawing life through. In other words, what continues the motion forward itself is the continuing setting forth of the new intent that draws life through.
In fact, intending for long life assures that you must be leading the parade; people don't start diminishing their life until they stop leading and start falling back into the ranks of the parade, trying to do what others are leading them to do.

" Looking on the bright side doesn't make you blind to the problems around you but helps you to see them in a positive light." - Allen Steble
I am the owner of my body and mind - Partho Rakshit
When I say, "I am depressed", it can at best mean only my mind is depressed, though I am not. When you are angry, when you are depressed, simply say silently in your mind, "It is not me but only my mind is depressed or angry". The magic of such recitation will douse the anger and dilute the depression.
I am the owner of my body and mind; I love my body and mind. They are my truest ever friends right from the time I came to this earth and they will remain with me till I breathe my last breath. To reach within my body, I use my mind. I often ill-treat my body and mind. Yet, I am responsible for the state of health of my mind. When I trust my mind, my best friend and treat it well, when I provide it only with healthy food (positive thoughts), I know my mind will do wonders to keep my other friend, my body, in good health.
I have realized that humility unleashes the power within me that helps me tide over all difficulties of life with profound ease and a smile.

Letting Go
To let go is not to try and change or blame another, I can only change myself.
To let go is not to care for, but to care about.
To let go is not to fix, but to be supportive.
To let go is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being.
To let go is not to be protective, It is to permit another to face reality.
To let go is not to deny, but to accept.
To let go is not to criticize and regulate anyone, but to try to become what I dream I can be.
To let go is not to regret the past, but to grow and live for the future.

Falling Trees by: Robert Fulghum, All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten
In the Solomon Islands in the south Pacific some villagers practice a unique form of logging. If a tree is too large to be felled with an ax, the natives cut it down by yelling at it. Woodsmen with special powers creep up on a tree just at dawn and suddenly scream at it at the top of their lungs. They continue this for thirty days. The tree dies and falls over. The theory is that the hollering kills the spirit of the tree. According to the villagers, it always works.
We educated folks yell at traffic and umpires and bills and banks and machines--especially machines. Machines and relatives get most of the yelling. Don't know what good it does. As for people, well, the Solomon Islanders may have a point. Yelling at living things does tend to kill the spirit in them. Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will break our hearts....
