Day with a Difference - July 05, 2006

Today's Inspirational Quote:

Money demands that you sell, not your weakness to men's stupidity, but your talent to their reason. - Ayn Rand

Works of Ayn Rand - For the New Intellectual

As her first non-fiction book, this collection leveraged Rand's fame as a novelist. Much of the material consists of excerpts from Rand's novels, supplemented by a long title essay that focuses on the history of philosophy. AYN RAND challenged the prevalent philosophical doctrines of our time and the "atmosphere of guilt, of panic, of despair, of boredom, and of all-pervasive evasion" which they created. One of the most controversial figures on the intellectual scene, Ayn Rand was the proponent of a new moral philosophy -- an ethic of rational self-interest -- that stands in sharp opposition to the ethics of altruism and self-sacrifice. The fundamentals of this new morality -- "a philosophy for living on earth" -- are here vibrantly set forth by the spokesman FOR THE NEW INTELLECTUAL.

The other non-fiction books of Rand includes The Virtue of Selfishness, Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, The Romantic Manifesto, Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology etc.

Rand was fiercely proud of the United States, and in later years said to the graduating class at West Point, "I can say—not as a patriotic bromide, but with full knowledge of the necessary metaphysical, epistemological, ethical, political and esthetic roots—that the United States of America is the greatest, the noblest and, in its original founding principles, the only moral country in the history of the world.
